Which Frederickson Records Are Open

Frederickson is an unincorporated Pierce County community, so there is no Frederickson clerk, recorder, municipal court, or city archive. The table below is the practical coverage map for Frederickson public records. An address using Tacoma, Spanaway, or Puyallup as its postal city can still fall inside Frederickson, making the county custodian more important than the mailing label.

Washington law does not make everything open. Sealed cases, adoption material, much juvenile content, protected personal identifiers, active investigative material, driver data, and current vital source files are closed or limited. When feasible, an agency releases the nonexempt portion with redactions and explains the exemption applied.

Why Frederickson Has No City Records Desk

Official records follow jurisdiction. The Pierce County Auditor records instruments and administers elections; the Assessor-Treasurer maintains parcel and tax-roll evidence; Planning and Public Works handles permits and maps; and court clerks maintain cases. Nearly every physical counter is in Tacoma. For an uncertain address, confirm the community-plan boundary in PublicGIS before choosing an office.

This geography avoids a common false start: a postal place is not proof that a city government holds the file. Frederickson's rapid change from rural tracts to subdivisions also means older evidence may be indexed by township, legal description, parent parcel, or another postal community rather than by “Frederickson.”

Pierce Recorder Indexes Start in 1984

The Auditor Recorded Documents Search, or ARMS, covers online records from 1984 forward. It indexes deeds, liens and releases, plats, easements, covenants, surveys, and recorded marriage material. The online images are redacted and uncertified. The Auditor warns that documents linked from a parcel can be incomplete, so a parcel shortcut is not a title search.

Pre-1984 instruments require counter, microfilm, or archive work. Current Auditor pricing lists plain copies at $1 per page; certification is $3 for the first page, $1 for each additional page, plus a $2 certification fee. Research service is $8 per hour.

Property Rolls, Permits, and Code Files

Three systems divide Frederickson land evidence. ATIP searches owner name, parcel number, site address, and sales data. PublicGIS maps parcels, zoning, community boundaries, and service layers. PALS carries permits, applications, inspections, code cases, and related documents. A tax mailing address can differ from the physical site address, and neither proves where a person currently lives.

Open a result's Application Permit, then review completed inspections and the Documents tab. Sensitive plans, active-enforcement details, and exempt personal information may be withheld, with the county request portal serving as the fallback.

Owner Alert Adds a 2025 Monitoring Layer

Pierce County Auditor launched free Owner Alert in December 2025. After enrollment, a user can monitor as many as ten name variants, parcel numbers, subdivisions, or condominiums for newly recorded documents. By the end of 2025, the Auditor reported 2,465 enrollments while Recording had processed more than 126,900 documents and over 22,582 real-estate excise tax affidavits during the year.

Owner Alert is prospective rather than historical. An email points to a matching recorded-document image, but the service does not block, reverse, or prove fraud. The option to save spelling variations is also useful preparation for a manual ARMS search: surnames, former names, entity names, and punctuation can affect an index match. Anyone who receives an unfamiliar alert should inspect the filing, preserve its recording number, and contact the Auditor or appropriate law-enforcement channel instead of confronting a named party.

Court Files Follow GR 31, Not the PRA

Pierce Superior and District Court indexes appear in LINX, but Washington court files do not travel through the Public Records Act. GR 31 governs access and GR 15 governs sealing, destruction, and redaction. Search by cause number or by a name formatted “last name, first name,” then narrow by year range and case type. Superior types include criminal, civil, domestic, probate/guardianship, and tax warrant/judgment; District types include criminal, civil, and infraction.

LINX can show parties, cause number, category, filing and proceeding dates, scheduled hearings, and docket descriptions. It is not the certified file. Clerk coverage is strongest from 2002 forward; unimaged 1991–2001 Superior Court documents can be requested for scanning into LINX, generally within two business days, while older files require retrieval.

Vital Files Have a Separate Access Gate

RCW 70.58A.540 exempts vital records, supporting documents, and vital-statistics information from PRA inspection. Tacoma-Pierce County Health Department issues available Washington birth and death products locally; Washington DOH handles statewide birth, death, marriage, and divorce products. A certified copy requires identity, qualifying relationship, and supporting proof. An informational copy has a different access threshold but is not a legal certificate.

TPCHD's $25 certificate component becomes a $39 walk-in base, $33 mail base, or $48.50 authorized-online base. Walk-in hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.; mailed orders usually ship within one to two weeks. Historical custody transfers to State Archives after 100 years for birth or fetal-death records, but after 25 years for death, marriage, divorce, and related dissolution records. Sealed records remain sealed.

Jail Roster and State Custody Are Different

LINX displays the current Pierce County Corrections roster and accepts a jail name in “last name, first name” format. Released people disappear, and a roster hit does not open the entire jail file. Nonmedical jail-file requests are limited by RCW 70.48.100 to the person concerned or a lawfully entitled representative.

The Washington DOC incarcerated-person search uses first name, last name, or DOC number.

DOC results can show DOC number, name, age, present location, and a VINE link, but cover current state custody rather than county jail or federal custody. Because status changes quickly, verify important custody information directly with the responsible agency.

Official Name Indexes Beyond County Files

Some useful Frederickson records sit in statewide systems. The DOH Provider Credential Search returns health credential status and discipline information by verified search fields.

A credential result identifies a regulated professional record, not a complete biography. Match credential number, profession, status, and dates before deciding whether two same-named results describe one person.

The Corporations and Charities Filing System searches business names and UBI numbers.

CCFS may identify entity status, registered agent, principal address, governors, and filing history. A registered agent is a service-of-process role and should not automatically be described as the beneficial owner.

The official Washington Unclaimed Property search offers a free name search and claim path.

Its public results provide owner-name and reporting-holder clues, while claim evidence remains protected. An advance fee is a warning sign because the official Washington search and claim process is free.

Terms That Change What You Receive

The product requested matters as much as the record name. Ask precisely when a copy must be accepted for an official purpose or when a withholding needs review.

These Tacoma counters are the principal local keepers. Confirm hours before traveling, especially because Assessor counter schedules include a summer midday closure and a later first-Thursday opening.

Submit a Frederickson Public Records Request

The Washington Public Records Act, chapter 42.56 RCW, covers identifiable records about government conduct unless an exemption applies. A requester ordinarily does not need to explain a motive. The five-business-day rule in RCW 42.56.520 is an initial-response deadline: the agency may produce records, acknowledge the request and estimate completion, seek clarification, or deny with reasons.

1. Choose the right keeper. Route county administrative material to the relevant Pierce department, a court case to its clerk, and vital products to TPCHD or DOH.
2. Search first. Save the recording, parcel, permit, cause, credential, or report number from the official portal.
3. Describe existing records. Give names, address, record type, identifiers, and a focused date range through the Pierce County request portal, mail, email, fax where offered, or personal delivery.
4. Select delivery. Pierce forms allow portal or email delivery, print by mail or pickup, or appointment-only inspection without copies.
5. Review and respond. Clarify promptly, pay required deposits or installments, and examine any exemption explanation. A request can close as abandoned after 30 days without required clarification, payment, inspection, or pickup.
6. Challenge when appropriate. Narrowing can shorten a large estimate. A PRA denial is reviewable under RCW 42.56.550; court and vital matters use their separate review channels.

Inspection and public-site downloads are generally free. Pierce publishes PRA defaults of $0.15 per paper page, $0.10 per scanned page, $0.05 per four electronic files, $0.10 per gigabyte, and actual media, postage, and delivery costs.
